Epilepsy and Seizures

Chiropractic does not “treat” epilepsy and seizures. However, since seizures and epilepsy are central nervous system disorders and chiropractic works with improving nervous system function, epilepsy and seizures can improve or even resolve with chiropractic care. Balancing energy in the nervous system through chiropractic care can help reduce or eliminate epilepsy and seizure symptoms. 1,2,3

The first thing we do in our office is we determine if there is nerve disturbance causing or contributing to the epilepsy and seizure symptoms. We are able to do this through a thorough history and a state of the art non-invasive nervous system evaluation.

The reason our approach is so successful when compared to other common approaches to dealing with epilepsy and seizures is that we are focused on addressing the cause of the epilepsy and seizures. Our approach is not a Band-Aid approach. Other common treatments focus on addressing the effect (symptom) or worse taking a “let’s hope they grow out of it” approach.

Following the history and evaluation, if we find out we can help we will present a care plan to correct the problem.

Asthma

Chiropractic does not “treat” asthma. However, since lung and airway functions are under direct control of the nervous system and chiropractic works with improving nervous system function, asthma issues can resolve with chiropractic care. Clearing the nerve pathway from brain to lungs and airway can help reduce or eliminate asthma symptoms. 1,2

ADHD

We do not “treat” ADHD/ADD.

However, since ADHD/ADD appears as a neurological disorder and chiropractic care helps reduce nervous system disturbances chiropractic care can help. Many parents concerned with the safety and long-term effects of the drugs used to treat ADHD have been looking for other options. The artificial approach to treating the symptoms of ADHD is to give regular doses of methylphenidate, more commonly known as Ritalin. Ritalin is a schedule II controlled substance related to, and producing similar effects as, amphetamines and cocaine. On the other hand, chiropractic care in our office is completely natural, gentle, and safe.

causes-of-adhd-400x400Common symptoms of ADHD include:

  • Trouble staying focused and is easily distracted
  • Appears to not listen when spoken to
  • Difficulty remembering things and following instructions
  • Gets bored with tasks before finishing
  • Makes careless mistakes
  • Has difficulty controlling behavior
  • Problems organizing tasks and activities
  • Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat
  • Moves about or climbs in inappropriate situations

At Health Path Chiropractic we do not treat symptoms. Instead, we are concerned with finding and correcting the cause of the symptoms. We accomplish this through a detailed history and through the use of state of the art technology used to detect nerve disturbance. The tests and the care in our office are completely non-invasive.

We have found that children with ADHD are typically stuck in a sympathetic nervous system dominant state. The sympathetic nervous system is part of the autonomic nervous system (ANS). The ANS is responsible for the majority of the body’s involuntary actions (breathing, heart rate, digestion, organ function, etc.). The sympathetic nervous system is part of the ANS is like the gas pedal of the nervous system and its counterpart is the parasympathetic nervous system, which is like the brake. Children with ADHD have the gas pedal floored. In fact, the best analogy for the state of their nervous system is they are like a Ferrari with bicycle brakes. We work to get everyone moving through life within safe speed limits again!

Through our history and evaluation if we can find out we can help we will present a care plan to correct the problem.

Infantile Colic

Colic is defined as crying more than three hours a day, three days a week for more than three weeks in an otherwise well-fed, healthy baby. The key to this definition is “in an otherwise well-fed, healthy baby”. Well, the logical question to ask is what would make an otherwise well-fed, healthy baby cry so frequently? When it comes to colic, the answer is usually digestive and gas pains.

crying-babyAn infant’s digestive system is under direct control of the nervous system and chiropractic works with the nervous system. Therefore improving the way the nervous system works can lead to resolution of colic with chiropractic care.1, 2, 3

Even during a normal birth there is a tremendous amount of stress placed on a baby as they enter the world. It is estimated during a normal birth process there is 50 pounds of axial traction placed on an infant’s head and spine. This stress can cause misalignments of the spine, called subluxation, that interfere with normal nerve function in the body. This nerve dysfunction can lead to many different conditions , including infantile colic.

The first thing we do in our office is we determine if there is nerve disturbance causing or contributing to the colic. We are able to do this through a thorough history and a state of the art non-invasive nervous system evaluation. We also look at lifestyle and environmental factors that may be preventing normal digestion.

The reason our approach is so successful when compared to other common approaches to dealing with infantile colic is that we are focused on addressing the causes of the colic.

Following the history and evaluation, if we can find out we can help, we will present a care plan to address your infant’s colic.

Infant care in our office is completely safe and incredibly gentle. In fact , during the adjustment it is not uncommon for the infant to fall asleep.

Bedwetting

Chiropractic does not “treat” nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting). However, since bladder function is under direct control of the nervous system and chiropractic works with the nervous system, bedwetting issues can resolve with chiropractic care. Clearing the nerve pathway from brain to bladder can help eliminate wetting the bed while sleeping. 1, 2
