Digestive Issues

Chiropractic does not “treat” digestive issues. However, since the digestive process is under direct control of the nervous system and chiropractic care works with the nervous system, digestive issues can resolve with chiropractic care. Acid reflux, constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome, and Crohn’s Disease can be helped with chiropractic care. 1,2,3

88879 maxIn our office we see digestive issues primarily present themselves in three ways. The first presents as an all diet and environmental caused issue. The second is an all neural (nerve disturbance/subluxation) caused issue. And the third and most common is a combination of diet, environment, and neural. It can be difficult to determine which is affecting you or your loved one, but that is what we’re here to help with!

The first thing we do in our office is determine if there is nerve disturbance causing or contributing to your digestive issues. We are able to do this through a thorough history discussion and a state of the art non-invasive nervous system evaluation.

The reason our approach is so successful when compared to other common approaches to dealing with digestive issues is that we are focused on addressing the cause of the digestive issue. Other common treatments focus on addressing the effect (symptom) or only focus on the diet and environment while completely neglecting the nerve component. If both diet and nerve disturbance are the cause and they are not addressed the results will be mixed at best.

Following the history and evaluation, if we can find out we can help, we will present a care plan to correct the problem.

Infertility

Chiropractic does not “treat” infertility. However, since reproductive function is under direct control of the nervous system and chiropractic works with the nervous system, infertility issues can resolve with chiropractic care. Ensuring that the nerves that affect the reproductive organs, as well as the body as a whole, are functioning at their optimal level can ensure the organs and glands responsible for conception are working at their best. 1, 2, 3

We are able to do this through a thorough history and a state of the art non-invasive nervous system evaluation. We also look at lifestyle and environmental factors that may be preventing fertilization or preventing optimal pregnancy outcomes.

Ear Infections

Ear infections have become so common that they are often referred to as “normal” ear infections. There is nothing normal about ear infections. Symptoms of ear infections are sharp pain in the ear, crying when lying down, loss of appetite, sleep loss, tugging on ear, nausea, and fever. Not only are ear infections tough on kids, parents lose countless nights of sleep worrying about their children.

OtitisMediaThe most common treatment for ear infections is the use of antibiotics. Unfortunately, antibiotics are usually ineffective for treating ear infections and overuse is dangerous. The majority of ear infections are viral in nature, therefore treating with an antibiotic (which kills bacteria not viruses) does not work. Overuse of antibiotics can lead to gastrointestinal (GI) issues and lowered immune function, which leads to more infections.

This leads to the question, if antibiotics are not a safe and effective solution to ear infections, what is? The answer is chiropractic. Here is why. Chiropractic addresses the cause of the ear infection not just the effects of the ear infection. For that to make sense you have to understand a little about the ear infection. Ear infections are caused by fluid buildup in the ear that, over time, becomes a prime location for bugs to reside (virus/bacteria). The cause of the ear infection is not the bugs themselves; it’s the loss of proper drainage. The chiropractic adjustment opens the Eustachian tube(s) to allow proper drainage.

If you had an old flowerpot filled with water in your backyard that became a breeding ground for mosquitos, what would be the best approach to get rid of the mosquitos? Would it be best to continue to go back again and again to the pot and dump toxic chemicals on the bugs? Or would it be best to drain the flowerpot? The same is true with ear infections. The best course of care is to drain the ears instead of using drugs to try and kill the bugs.

The safest and most effective way to address ear infections is to address the cause with chiropractic. 1, 2

The first thing we do in our office is we determine if there is nerve disturbance or muscle dysfunction preventing the Eustachian tube(s) from draining. We are able to do this through a thorough history and a state of the art non-invasive nervous system evaluation. We also look at lifestyle and environmental factors that may be contributing to the ear infections.

Following the history and evaluation, if we find out we can help, we will present a care plan to address your child’s ear infections.

Care for infants and children in our office is completely safe and incredibly gentle. In fact, during the adjustment it is not uncommon for the infant to fall asleep.

Stress, Anxiety, High Blood Pressure and Heart Attacks

There is no clear definition of stress . However, everyone knows when they are feeling stressed. What you may not know is the havoc stress may be causing your entire body. Stress can cause a multitude of symptoms and diseases that, at first glance, aren’t always linked to stress. Some of these conditions include: headaches, feelings of despair, nervousness, anxiety, increased and decreased eating, memory problems, trouble sleeping, acne, muscle aches, tension, reduced bone density, increased heart rate, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart attack, nausea, stomach pain, weight gain, diabetes, diarrhea, constipation, painful periods, reduced sexual desire, impotence, and decreased ability to fight infections.

stressThere are three major types of stress. They are emotional, chemical, and physical. When you mention stress, most people assume it is emotional stress, while chemical stress and physical stress are often overlooked. However, all three types of stress affect the body in similar ways and all have the same outcome. They all cause the body to function improperly. Another factor that must be taken into consideration is that the 3 types of stress feed off of each other and reinforce each other. For example, if you are suffering from back or neck pain (a physical stress), that suffering can add to your worries, which in turn causes more despair (emotional stress).

At Health Path we understand that stress comes at you in three forms. Therefore our treatments focus on addressing all three forms. This multi-dimensional approach leads to faster and longer lasting results for you, the patient.

The most important thing to remember is that stress does not have to be a normal part of life. As discussed, stress can have devastating effects on your body. You only get one body so take care of it! If you don’t know where to start, let us help. You can start by calling and scheduling your first appointment.

Sports Injuries

sports-injuriesAt Health Path Chiropractic we utilize cutting edge, research driven tools to get you back to competing on the field and in life at a high level. We help our athletes accomplish their specific goals by offering rehabilitative services that accelerate the healing process to restore proper function. The care we offer at the clinic is beyond symptom relief. We want to ensure that any injured areas are restored to their optimal level of function to prevent chronic reoccurrence. We work closely with local physical therapists, athletic trainers, and sports orthopedic doctors to ensure you get the care you need.

Chiropractors work with optimizing the function of the nervous system. The nervous system’s primary function is to heal the body. By restoring proper nervous system function the body is better able to heal itself. A better connection between the brain and body will improve reaction times, proprioception, and overall coordination.

According to Sean Atkins, Ph.D. Exercise Physiologist, “It is estimated that 90% of world class athletes utilize chiropractic care on a regular basis to prevent injuries and to improve their performance”.

The most common sports injuries we see in our office are:

  • vertebral subluxation
  • sprained ankles
  • knee injuries
  • shoulder injuries
  • pulled muscles
  • rib injuries
  • thoracic outlet syndrome
  • sprain/strains

Thomas Harris, M.D. in The Sports Medicine Guide states: "Postural strength and coordination are essential for injury prevention and sports performance". At Health Path Chiropractic we focus on restoring proper posture and improving postural strength. Whether you are a professional athlete or a weekend warrior our primary goal is to help you accomplish your goals.
