Chiropractic is the science of analyzing the nervous system and adjusting areas of dysfunction called vertebral subluxations. Vertebral subluxations are misalignments or loss of motion in the joints of the spine that put damaging pressure on the nervous system. Chiropractors are trained to detect these subluxations and remove them. Once these subluxations are removed, your body is able to function at a much higher level.
After a chiropractic adjustment, it is not uncommon for improved immune function and for other improvements in body function that are not typically associated with a sore back or neck. Removing the subluxations in your back and neck relieves any abnormal pressure on the nervous system. The nervous system is made up of your brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Through the spinal cord and nerves, your brain communicates with every cell and tissue in your body. The nervous system is incredibly important because it controls everything in the body, including all function and healing in the body. By focusing on the back and neck, a Chiropractor can ensure that your spine is aligned properly. This protects the nerves housed in your spine and helps protect against nerve damage and injury that can result when bones are out of alignment.
Chiropractic care in our office is not only effective; it is also incredibly safe. The adjustment is quick and applied with a very light, gentle force. Patients are often curious about potential side effects of chiropractic care (especially since we’ve all become so accustomed to medications with potentially dangerous side effects). The truth is, chiropractic care is not without side effects. The only difference is that these side effects are desirable! They include: increased energy, better sleep, better focus, better digestion, less pain, more motion, and more quality time spent on things you enjoy doing. Prior to your first adjustment, the doctor will walk you through the specifics of your chiropractic adjustment.
The specific technique that we specialize in is postural correction. Postural correction is a technique that is deeply routed in the sciences of physics and mechanics. First, postural abnormalities must be determined. We determine if abnormalities are present by performing a postural analysis and taking x-rays. The results are analyzed along with the nervous system evaluation to determine how structure is affecting the function of the nervous system. Once a complete analysis of these findings is performed, and if it is determined that chiropractic care is necessary, a specific treatment plan is presented to correct these abnormalities. Our ultimate goal is to not only get you feeling better, but also to give you the tools that are necessary to keep you better.
